IRS extends Mississippi tax filing deadline to June 8, 2026
The IRS has announced a tax relief extension for Mississippi residents impacted by a severe winter storm in January. The agency is granting an extension for various tax deadlines until June 8, 2026.
Mississippi will follow the federal extension granted to victims of Winter Storm Fern, which occurred on Jan. 23, 2026. Taxpayers in the state who have individual, corporate, or pass-through business returns due during this period now have until June 8, 2026, to file and pay. This includes quarterly estimated payments and franchise taxes.
Taxpayers who receive a penalty notice should contact the Mississippi Department of Revenue at (601) 923-7700 for abatement. The department will also work with taxpayers outside Mississippi if their records or tax professionals are in the disaster area. However, the extension does not automatically apply to other tax types or prior liabilities, though relief may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Taxpayers impacted by the storm needing additional extensions are urged to contact the department at the provided number for assistance.
