Alcorn State University Homecoming After-Party Cancelled Due to Recent Shootings

Port Gibson, Miss. — The Port Gibson Police Department has announced that Alcorn State University’s planned homecoming after-party has been canceled due to recent incidents of gun violence across the region.

This comes after 5 shootings and 10 deaths with multiple other injuries have occurred across the state.

Police Chief Russell Dorsey said the decision was made to protect the safety and well-being of students, attendees, and residents. “Our priority is the safety of our community,” Dorsey said, extending condolences to those affected by gun violence throughout Mississippi.

The department thanked the public for its understanding and urged anyone with questions to contact the Port Gibson Police Department at 601-437-5101.
