Increased MS unemployment will start hitting MS as soon as tomorrow according to Governor
Mississippi is looking at an 8,000% increase in unemployment claims over the last few weeks, but good news is on the way, according to MS Governor Tate Reeves.
The Governor said that Mississippi will start seeing parts of the package of the CARES Act to hit Mississippi tomorrow. For people that are already approved for unemployment, they should start seeing the additional funds beginning tomorrow.
More than 87,000 Mississippians have filed for unemployment.
According to Reeves, Mississippi will be among the first states in the country to see these funds.
Work search requirements and the 1 week waiting period have been suspended.
Reeves said to check your debit card starting tomorrow for the enhanced benefits.
He also said the MDES is taking volunteers, private companies and retired persons to help process claims. They are waiting on additional guidance from the federal government on some parts of the CARES act. He also said they are attempting to automate the process.
