Booneville Motorcycle Crash Kills Prentiss County Man, 70
A 70-year-old Prentiss County man died Sunday night in a Booneville motorcycle crash on South Second Street, local officials said. Prentiss County Coroner Greg Sparks identified the rider as Ronald Lauderdale, who died at the scene.
The collision happened in front of the Skyline Apartments on South Second Street, one of the main north-south routes through the city. The Booneville Police Department is investigating.
What officials say about the Booneville motorcycle crash
According to Sparks, Lauderdale’s motorcycle and another vehicle collided. Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said “both vehicles were traveling in the same direction” at the time of the crash, as reported by WTVA.
The driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene. Officials have not said whether anyone else was hurt, what may have caused the collision, or whether any charges are being considered. The crash remains under investigation.

A reminder to share the road
The crash is a painful reminder for drivers across Prentiss, Alcorn and Tishomingo counties as fall riding season gets underway and cooler weather brings more motorcycles onto local roads. Motorcyclists have far less protection than people inside cars and trucks, and even a low-speed collision can be deadly.
Traffic safety agencies routinely urge drivers to take a few simple steps around motorcycles:
- Check mirrors and blind spots carefully before changing lanes or turning, especially on busy city streets.
- Leave extra following distance behind a motorcycle, which can slow down quickly.
- Watch for riders when pulling out of driveways, apartment complexes and parking lots.
- Put the phone down. Distracted driving makes it far harder to spot a smaller vehicle.
Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet (required by law for all riders in Mississippi), use their headlights, and wear bright or reflective gear so other drivers can see them, particularly after dark.
