Over 200 COVID19 cases in Mississippi as number nearly doubles overnight

There are now over 200 coronavirus cases in the state of Mississippi after new cases nearly doubled overnight.

Cases of COVID-19 continue to be identified in U.S. states and in Mississippi. This is a rapidly changing situation that is continually being monitored by the CDC and MSDH as more cases in the U.S. are expected.

“Mississippians are advised to take health precautions to prevent the possible transmission of disease, and stay in touch with MSDH for the latest information on the situation in Mississippi,” the state agency said.

67 new cases were listed on the MSDH website. That brings the state total up to 207.

Next week MSDH will be setting up six drive-up testing sites across the state with assistance from the National Guard and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The sites are aimed at those with COVID-19 symptoms such as fever of 100.4 or greater and severe cough or chest pain. We’ll be checking temperatures and getting samples to the state Public Health Lab for testing as part of a larger effort to get wide-scale COVID-19 testing under way for those who need it most.
