Magnolia confirms first positive test of COVID19

MRHC has been notified of their first positive test of COVID19 according to a Thursday press release. They have now tested 125 patients, with 30 tests still pending.

Magnolia Regional Health Center (MRHC) and the Mississippi State Department of Health have been notified of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The patient, a resident of Tippah County, tested positive in one of the MRHC outpatient clinics and was sent home for self-isolation, as recommended by the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Out of respect for patient confidentiality, the hospital is unable to provide any additional details about the patient’s status or treatment.

“With the rapid spread of Coronavirus in the United States, MRHC has been prepared for when, not if, the virus would be introduced into our region,” states Dr. James Gilmore, Chief Medical Officer at MRHC.  “Our staff acted efficiently and in accordance with protocols and procedures recommended by the CDC and the Mississippi State Department of Health to contain the spread of the virus.”

“We have qualified individuals at our facility who are working tirelessly to keep our community protected,” MRHC CEO, Jim Hobson, explains. “Please follow the necessary precautions to protect yourself and others from contracting and spreading this virus.”
