MPOWER College and Career Expo Set for Oct. 29

High school students and families across Northeast Mississippi can explore college, military and career options under one roof next week at the third annual MPOWER College and Career Expo, set for Thursday, Oct. 29, at Crossroads Arena in Corinth.

MPOWER College and Career Expo: Date, Time and Place

The expo runs from 8 a.m. to noon at Crossroads Arena, 2800 S. Harper Road in Corinth. The arena’s events calendar lists the expo for Thursday, Oct. 29. The arena’s calendar does not list an admission price.

Who Can Attend

According to a Daily Corinthian report on the event, the expo is open to:

  • Sophomores, juniors and seniors from Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah and Tishomingo counties
  • Northeast Mississippi Community College Adult Education and Workforce students
  • College students
  • Parents

The report says this year’s date was chosen so that Corinth High School students can take part, which was not possible at last year’s event.

What to Expect

Last year’s expo drew more than 100 vendors, according to the report, including all U.S. military branches, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Caterpillar, Magnolia Regional Health Center, the Tennessee Valley Authority and ACE Power. Students typically use events like this to talk directly with employers, recruiters and college representatives about jobs, training programs and scholarships.

Organizer Taylor Johnson, a career coach with the Alcorn School District, has said schools and vendors were still being recruited. Anyone interested in taking part can reach Johnson at taylorjohnson@alcornschools.org.

Other Events at Crossroads Arena

The arena also hosts the Corinth Sports Cards & Collectibles Show on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Corinth Comic Con on Saturday, Oct. 31. Country star Brantley Gilbert performs Nov. 7. See our earlier story, Brantley Gilbert Corinth Concert Set for Nov. 7.
