Authorities update on suspect involved in officer shooting in Mississippi

Authorities in Mount Olive, Mississippi, announced that 19-year-old Zykerian Quentavius Magee has been cleared as a suspect in an officer-involved shooting that occurred June 8. Magee was previously listed as a person of interest but has now been removed from that status, according to a police update issued at 6:50 p.m.

However, 19-year-old Cortavion Dewayne Hobbs remains wanted in connection with the incident. Police describe Hobbs as armed and dangerous and say he is believed to be in the area of the 200 block of South Bluff Street in Mount Olive, Covington County.

The shooting occurred around 3:38 p.m. on June 8, and authorities have issued a blue alert for the suspects. Both Magee and Hobbs are black males, with Magee described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds, wearing a black hoodie, with brown eyes and black hair. Hobbs is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, wearing a camouflage hoodie, with brown eyes and black hair.

Police urge anyone with information on Hobbs’s whereabouts to call 911 or the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation at 855-642-5378. Authorities say they are gathering further details about a second suspect and will provide updates when available.
