Former NEMCC basketball coach Harvey Childers passes away

Northeast Mississippi Community College is mourning the death of Harvey Childers, a former head coach of the NEMCC basketball team. Childers coached the Tigers from 1985 to 1992 and compiled a record of 192 wins.

During his tenure, Childers led the team to three trips to the NJCAA tournament, including a run to the national championship game in 1989 where they finished as runners-up, according to school officials.

He remains the fourth-winningest coach in the program’s history. The college offered its condolences to his family, stating that his contributions to the program left a lasting legacy.
