Heat advisories in effect ahead of severe thunderstorms in the South
Heat will continue to build across parts of the South ahead of scattered strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, according to weather officials.
Heat index values are forecast to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit statewide, with some areas in southeast Arkansas and northwest Mississippi reaching heat illness thresholds of more than 105 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. local time for affected areas. Authorities urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity, and be prepared for possible severe weather conditions later today.
