How to Tie the Palomar Knot for Stronger Fishing Lines

The Palomar knot is known for its strength and simplicity, making it a popular choice among anglers, especially when using braided lines.

To tie the knot, start by doubling about 6 inches of line to create a loop. Pass this loop through the eye of your hook or lure.

Next, tie a loose overhand knot with the doubled line. Do not tighten it yet. Then, pass the hook or lure through the loop you created.

Slowly pull both ends of the line to tighten the knot, ensuring it seats cleanly at the eye. Wetting the line before tightening can help maximize strength.

Finally, trim the excess tag line, and you’re ready to fish. For more fishing tips, visit the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks website.
