Mississippi is experiencing ongoing extreme heat this week, with heat advisories covering most of the state and heat warnings issued for north and central regions, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
The heat index is expected to reach between 105 and 115 degrees, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. Authorities warn that heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, especially during prolonged outdoor activity.
Residents are advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during the hottest hours, and taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing and checking on vulnerable populations, such as older adults and children, are also recommended.
Officials remind the public never to leave children or pets in parked vehicles. They also urge residents to recognize signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, such as confusion, loss of consciousness, or cessation of sweating. In such cases, calling 911 immediately is essential.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency encourages everyone to stay safe and vigilant as temperatures remain high throughout the week.
