Mississippi Officials Warn Against Boating Under the Influence

Operators boating under the influence contribute significantly to boating accidents and fatalities, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, slow reaction times, cause poor coordination, blur vision, and affect balance, increasing the risk of accidents.

Boating under the influence is a crime, officials said. They recommend designating a sober driver or abstaining from alcohol altogether when boating.

Officials emphasized that safety should always come first to keep waterways safe and enjoyable for everyone.

The department encourages boaters to prioritize safety and promote a fun, accident-free experience on the water during National Safe Boating Week and beyond.
