Mississippi opens cooling centers amid heat wave
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency warns residents about the extreme heat, urging caution and hydration. Local officials have opened three cooling centers in Greenwood to help residents stay cool.
The centers are located at the Greenwood Senior Citizen Center, Greenwood Youth Center, and the Old Greenwood Fire Station #3. The addresses are 507 Howard St., 926 W. Henry St., and 106 E. Claiborne Ave., respectively, according to agency sources.
Officials recommend watching for signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion and checking on elderly neighbors, especially during outdoor activities. They also advise residents to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
As more cooling centers are announced, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency will update its website. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take precautions during the heat wave.
