Mississippi Outdoors Podcast Explores Wildlife Management Strategies

A new episode of the Mississippi Outdoors Podcast is now available, featuring Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks biologist Martin Coker.

Coker explains the difference between nuisance animals and fur bearer species and why that distinction is important for wildlife management in Mississippi. He discusses topics such as year-round hog control, regulated bobcat and river otter seasons, and the science behind managing these animals.

The episode also covers raccoon conflicts in suburban areas, how CITES tags function, and the challenges of removing hog populations. Coker emphasizes that hog removal is more complex than many people realize.
