Mississippi Outdoors Podcast features study on wild hog and deer interactions
A new episode of the Mississippi Outdoors Podcast is now available, featuring Melanie Boudreaux, an assistant research professor at Mississippi State University.
Boudreaux’s team conducted what may be the first study to quantify how wild hogs and deer interact across the state. Using GPS collars, trail cameras at bait sites, and aerial surveys, the researchers tracked animal movements and interactions.
The study found that hogs move between deer social groups, effectively connecting separate populations that might otherwise remain isolated. These findings could have implications for wildlife management and disease control in the region, according to Boudreaux.
