A new episode of the Mississippi Outdoors Podcast is now available, featuring a roundtable discussion with biologists from Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The episode focuses on bear populations and management strategies in the three states.
Anthony Ballard of Mississippi, Spencer Daniels of Arkansas, and John Hanks of Louisiana share insights into their respective states’ bear programs. Arkansas has more than 5,000 bears and has conducted hunting seasons since 1980. Louisiana held its second bear season after emerging from the federal threatened species list in 2016. Mississippi’s bear population continues to expand, prompting ongoing monitoring efforts.
