Mississippi WMAs undergo busy summer habitat improvements

Wildlife management areas across Mississippi are bustling with activity during the summer months, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

While hunters eagerly await fall, WMA staff work year-round to prepare for upcoming seasons and improve wildlife habitats. Summer projects include timber management, prescribed fire planning, and habitat monitoring, the department said.

Additional work involves food plot planting, dove field management, wetland maintenance, and infrastructure repairs such as roads and trails. These efforts aim to ensure WMAs are ready for both wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts when hunting season begins, department officials said.
