Northeast Mississippi Community College Celebrates Adult Education Week

Northeast Mississippi Community College is celebrating Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. The event recognizes the impact of adult education programs on individuals and communities.

Dr. Ricky Ford, NEMCC president, praised adult education as a vital support system. He emphasized that these programs serve as a bridge for people facing life’s challenges. Ford said removing such programs could leave residents stranded and unable to contribute or stabilize their situations.

Mississippi State Adult Education Director Beth Little highlighted the week’s purpose. She said it honors educators, support staff, community partners, and adult learners who demonstrate that it’s never too late to pursue new opportunities.

During the past program year, Mississippi Adult Education served more than 7,000 learners. The program helps adults achieve high school equivalency, pursue college and career pathways, and improve English language skills. Each learner’s success benefits families, communities, and the state’s workforce, according to the organization.

The celebration underscores the importance of adult education in fostering personal growth and economic development across Mississippi.
