DALTON KEITH WAGES, 21, was sentenced to 45 years in prison Thursday in Pontotoc County Circuit Court, according to court records. Wages pleaded guilty on June 17 to manslaughter with a firearm, simple assault on a police officer, and witness intimidation.
Judge John R. White imposed the sentence during a hearing on June 23. The manslaughter charge relates to the shooting death of Matthew Tyson Westmoreland on September 17, 2022, in Pontotoc County.
The Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, and prosecutors were Assistant District Attorneys Paul Gault and Sidra Winter. The case was prosecuted on behalf of the state by Jason D. Herring, district attorney for the First Circuit Court District.
