Severe storms possible along cold front in the Midwest and South

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop along and ahead of an approaching cold front Tuesday afternoon west of the Mississippi River, according to the National Weather Service.

Some of these thunderstorms may become strong or severe, with damaging winds as the primary threat, officials said. However, weak wind shear is expected to limit the overall coverage of organized severe weather.

Any lingering storms are expected to weaken Tuesday evening as atmospheric instability decreases across the Mid-South, the agency added.
