NEMCC, Delta State nursing students present projects at Destin conference
Northeast Mississippi Community College said ADN faculty and four Delta State University Doctor of Nursing Practice candidates presented scholarly projects at the SPIN Learning Nurse Educator Conference in Destin, Florida. The college shared the update in a Facebook post Monday, saying the presentations highlighted work connected to nursing education and practice.
The presenters were Lauren Sparks, MSN, FNP-BC, a DNP candidate; Michael Barron, MSN, FNP-C, a DNP candidate; Paden Switcher, MSN, FNP-C, a DNP candidate; and Hanna Byrd, MSN, FNP-C, a DNP candidate. Their projects addressed human trafficking education in a pre-licensure nursing program, a fall-prevention workflow in a rural primary care setting, HPV vaccination knowledge and attitudes among young adults, and mental health literacy for college nursing students.
NEMCC said Sparks’ project focused on measuring the educational impact of human trafficking content in a pre-licensure nursing program. Barron’s project examined implementing an evidence-based fall prevention workflow in a rural primary care setting, while Switcher’s looked at the impact of a targeted educational session on HPV vaccination knowledge, attitudes and intentions.
Byrd’s project was titled Breaking Barriers: Enhancing Mental Health Literacy and Reducing Stigma: An Evidence-Based Educational Intervention for College Nursing Students. The college said all four presenters are set to graduate with their Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees in December 2026.
