Prentiss County Schools Earn Fifth Straight A Rating

The Prentiss County School District has earned its fifth consecutive A rating from the Mississippi Department of Education, according to the Booneville Banner. The Prentiss County schools A rating comes in the first year of the state’s updated accountability model.

Prentiss County Schools A Rating by School

The state released district and school accountability ratings the week before the Banner’s Oct. 19 report. Individual school grades listed in the article:

  • A: New Site High School, Wheeler Attendance Center, Marietta Elementary School and Hills Chapel Elementary School
  • C: Thrasher Attendance Center and Jumpertown Attendance Center

A New Baseline for Mississippi Schools

The article notes that five straight A ratings is a significant accomplishment, especially because the state recently changed its accountability model and raised expectations. Results for 2025-2026 are not directly comparable to earlier years; the changes set a new baseline for evaluating performance across Mississippi.

District Response

The district’s leader said, “I am extremely proud of our students and staff and what they continue to accomplish.” The statement thanked students, staff, families and the community, and said the district will keep working on growth, including support for struggling students and career readiness.
