Alcorn County distributed 2nd most pain pills to patients in state, 87 per person

According to new data from the DEA, Alcorn County wrote the 2nd most number of pain pill prescriptions in the state. From 2006-2012, the numer of pills written was the equivalent to 87 pills per person per year in the county.

According to the data, compiled by the Washington Post

 From 2006 to 2012 there were 22,257,130 prescription pain pills supplied to Alcorn County, Miss.

•10,107,350 of the pills were distributed by McKesson Corporation and 11,307,490 were manufactured by Par Pharmaceutical.

The only county with more prescriptions written was Marion County in South MS. See the complete list and date by clicking here.
