Police in Mississippi tasked with enforcing quarantine orders from Department of Health

Police in Mississippi have been tasked with enforcing the executive order in Mississippi aimed at people who have tested positive for COVID19.

State and local law enforcement agencies have been given direction to secure compliance with Executive Order 1466 of the Governor of The State of Mississippi.

Statewide, local Police Departments have been charged with enforcing this order inside the city limits of their town

If a person is supposed to be isolated or quarantined because of a pending or positive COVID-19 test and fails to follow this order, a fine of $500 or 6 months in jail, or both, can be enforced.

Remember, isolation separates sick people with a quarantinable communicable disease from people who are not sick. Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.

“We have received multiple complaints about people inside our city limits who are not complying with this order. While isolation and quarantine is something none of us would want to have forced on us, it is necessary that it be done in order to protect the health and wellbeing of the public. Common sense and decency would dictate that this be done in order to limit the spread of this virus.”
