Alcorn, Corinth Schools Get First State Grades Under New Scale

The Mississippi Department of Education has released the first Alcorn school grades issued under new accountability standards adopted in November 2025, and the Alcorn School District came out with an overall B. Corinth’s two rated schools both earned a C, according to the Daily Corinthian.

Alcorn School District Earns a B

Alcorn School District’s individual school grades were:

  • Alcorn Central Elementary: A
  • Kossuth Elementary: A
  • Kossuth High School: A
  • Alcorn Central High School: B
  • Alcorn Central Middle School: C
  • Biggersville Attendance Center: C
  • Kossuth Middle School: C

Superintendent Brandon Quinn said the results show progress that “deserves recognition and reflects the work of our students and educators.” He also noted that the state raised the scores required to earn each letter grade.

Corinth Schools Post C Grades

In the Corinth School District, Corinth Elementary School earned a C, down from a B last year, with its total points falling from 400 to 362. Corinth Middle School held steady at a C, though its points rose from 355 to 398. Grades for Corinth High School and for the district as a whole were not yet available and are expected to be released later.

What the New Scale Means

Because the state changed the standards, the 2026 letter grades are not a direct year-to-year comparison with earlier ratings. A school can improve its point total and still hold the same letter, as Corinth Middle did. Parents who want more detail can look up their school’s report on the Mississippi Department of Education website or contact their district office.

Grades for the Booneville, Prentiss County and Tishomingo County districts were not part of the source report. This story will be a reference point as more results are released.
