Alcorn County ACE Power Crews Head to Alabama Outages
Alcorn County Electric Power Association, known as ACE Power, is sending line crews to south Alabama to help restore electricity after a hurricane, and the ACE Power crews Alabama deployment is a way of paying back help the co-op received earlier this year, the Daily Corinthian reports.
Two Crews Headed to Brewton
ACE is dispatching one construction crew and one service crew, each with about ten workers. They are going to Southern Pine Electric Cooperative in Brewton, Alabama, and are expected to work at least 16 hours a day for roughly a week.
Southern Pine’s outages stretch across a wide area, including Escambia, Conecuh, Monroe, Coffee, Covington, Geneva, Dale, Barbour, Baldwin, Mobile, Crenshaw and Houston counties.
Returning a Favor
About nine months ago, ACE received help from the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi during its own storm recovery. This deployment returns that mutual aid. ACE has sent crews out three times this year, including for storm recovery within Mississippi.
ACE chief operating officer Jason Grisham said, “I just want to say how appreciative we are for those who are willing to go.”
Alcorn County Largely Spared
Aside from some outages caused by wind gusts, Alcorn County came through the storm largely unscathed, so local service is not expected to be affected by the crews’ absence.
- Crews: one construction, one service (about 10 workers each)
