Corinth and Alcorn County school district reporting additional student and faculty positive tests and quarantines

Both the Corinth and Alcorn County school district are reporting additional student and faculty positive test results as well as additional quarantines according to releases from each district.

From Alcorn County:

 Instructional Employees: 1 Non-lnstructional Employees: 3 Students: 10 COVID-19 Virus Alert This page is updated as confirmed cases warrant. The Alcorn School District ASDI regards student and employeehealth and safety as Its highest priorities. The ASD has followed Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Standards and Guidelines regarding health and safety relating to the COVID-19 Virus.

8/10/2020 Five positive COVID-19 Virus test results have been confirmed in the ASD_ One student at Kossuth High, one student at Kossuth Elementary, one student at Biggersville Elementary, one student at diggersville High and one student at Alcorn Central Middle have been diagnosed with the COVID-Ig Virus. Close contacts have been notified. The ASD is following MSDH and CDC Standards and Guidelines as they pertain to these specific issues. Please know that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the health and safety of all ASD students and employees. The ASD will provide further information regarding the issue if needed. From Corinth:

Corinth High School was notified today of two additional students and one staffmember testing positive forCOVID-19. Contact tracing at the schoolhas been completed and anyone in close contact (someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more) with this person has been notified. None of these cases has been on campus since August 4. If you were notified, your child will need to quarantine for 14 days from the last known contact with the individuals. While quarantining your child may not attend school or any school activities. However, they should continue working digitally in order to be counted present. s makes nine total reported student positi ve cases and one staff member positive case at Corinth High School.

The state does not require Mississippi schools to inform the public when teachers and students test positive for COVID-19. The CSD has made the decision to continue to keep reporting this information to you. Please keep in mind that other schools not making public announcements doesn ‘t mean they don’t have positive cases.

Being one of the first school districts to reopen, the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control are in close and frequent contact with us to help ensure that we are creating as safe a leaming environment as possible. Release: 8/10/2020
