Firefighters fight 178 acre fire in Alcorn County as wildfires continue across state

Wildfire season continues across Mississippi and Alcorn County is not immune to the fires.

The MFC has urged residents to not participate in outdoor burning as of late.

These counties are currently under a burn ban:

  • Feb. 28 for Pike, Smith and Yazoo counties
  • March 7 for Panola and Warren counties
  • March 14 for Adams County
  • March 15 for Claiborne, Jasper and Rankin counties

In Alcorn County, the state fought a wildfire recently and issued the following:

#MSforestry Commission Wildland firefighters often fight #wildfires on treacherous terrain. This is a picture of a 178-acre fire in Alcorn County this week. The fire was located on Crum Mountain, at 725 feet.

Needless to say, it was a steep fight.

The hope is that the recent rainfall will ease some of the troubles as far as wildfires getting out of control.
