Booneville Deploys Axon Outpost ALPR Cameras to Enhance Public Safety

The city of Booneville and its police department will soon deploy 35 Axon Outpost automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras across the city and parks. The fixed cameras automatically read license plates of passing vehicles and provide live streaming video and vehicle details such as make, model, and color, according to a news release from the department.

The cameras are designed to help law enforcement respond swiftly to Amber Alerts, locate stolen vehicles, and identify wanted suspects. They are also intended to support investigations and reduce blind spots in patrol areas, officials said.

The department emphasized that the system is not used for traffic citations. No violations will be mailed or issued based on the technology. The cameras only read license plates and do not track individuals or store personal driving data beyond law enforcement needs, the release stated. Data is managed according to department policies and privacy standards.

Booneville Police Department currently uses Axon equipment including Tasers, body cameras, and a fleet dashboard system for patrol vehicles. For questions about the new cameras or data policies, residents are encouraged to contact the police department at 662-728-5611.
