FEMA warns of scam involving fake representatives charging for assistance
FEMA is warning the public about reports of individuals impersonating agency representatives. These scammers are charging $100 and requesting personal information to supposedly help with FEMA assistance applications, according to the agency.
FEMA officials say genuine employees always carry official identification and never ask for money in exchange for assistance. The agency urges anyone who believes they have been targeted or victimized to contact local law enforcement and report the incident to StopFEMAfraud@fema.dhs.gov.
FEMA encourages the community to share this information to help prevent others from falling victim to these scams. The agency continues to work to protect disaster survivors from fraud and scams.
