Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office officials have issued a warning about a phone scam targeting residents in the area.

Authorities say multiple citizens have reported receiving calls from an individual claiming to be an officer with the sheriff’s office. The caller alleges that the recipient has a warrant and must pay money or face arrest.

Officials emphasized that the scammer may use the sheriff’s office phone number, which could appear legitimate, and may even mention the name of an actual deputy. They stressed that no sheriff’s office employee will ever call and request money or payments over the phone.

Sheriff’s officials advised residents to hang up immediately if they receive such calls and to report the incident to law enforcement.

Authorities continue to investigate the scam and urge the public to remain cautious of unsolicited calls requesting personal information or payments.
