Mid-South braces for dangerous heat with heat index up to 115 degrees

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, has issued heat advisories and warnings for much of the Mid-South as the region faces another day of dangerous temperatures. Forecasters predict heat index values will reach between 105 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit in most areas.

The extreme heat is expected to persist from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT, prompting officials to urge residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The advisories emphasize staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, and seeking shade or air conditioning when possible.

Emergency officials warn that prolonged exposure to such high temperatures can increase health risks, especially for vulnerable populations. Local authorities continue to monitor conditions and advise residents to remain vigilant throughout the heat event.
