Mississippi Auditor’s Office Arrests Former Jones County Deputy Chancery Clerk

Jackson, Miss. — The Mississippi State Auditor’s Office announced the arrest of Christy Hodge, a former Jones County Deputy Chancery Clerk, on allegations of record alteration and misappropriation of funds.

Special agents from the auditor’s office allege that Hodge altered and submitted bank statements between June and August 2025 to hide $13,356.89 in public funds she purportedly converted for personal use. The funds have since been recovered and deposited into the county’s official depository, according to authorities.

State Auditor Shad White emphasized the importance of protecting taxpayer dollars. “Stealing taxpayer dollars only holds Mississippi back from helping citizens and is completely unacceptable,” White said. “We will continue to do everything in our power to recover misspent money for taxpayers.”

Hodge faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Authorities note that all individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor encourages the public to report suspected fraud by visiting its website or calling 1-800-321-1275 during business hours.
