Mississippi man charged with grand larceny after vehicle scrapped without owner’s permission

The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department has charged a Booneville man with grand larceny following the theft and illegal scrapping of a vehicle. The department received a report on July 29, 2026, that a vehicle had been taken from a residence on County Road 1151 and later scrapped at SMC Recycling.

Deputy Dennis Peeks documented the initial complaint, and investigators Aaron Stolz and Torie Jumper began looking into the case. They located a receipt from SMC Recycling, dated July 29, 2026, through Leads Online, which identified Mark Michael, 52, as the person who scrapped the vehicle. The vehicle identification number on the receipt matched documentation confirming the vehicle’s rightful owner.

Photographs taken at SMC showed significant damage caused during the scrapping process, according to authorities. Based on the evidence, Investigator Stolz prepared an affidavit for grand larceny, which was presented to Justice Court Judge Ray Hall. A warrant for Michael’s arrest was issued.

Michael was arrested on July 30, 2026, and booked into the Prentiss County jail. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance before Justice Court Judge Craig Bishop, who set his bond at $1,000. Investigators Torie Jumper and Kolby Knight assisted with the case. The case will be presented to the next Prentiss County grand jury.
