Iuka Walmart Celebrates Grand Reopening After Remodel
Shoppers in Tishomingo County have a refreshed place to shop after the Iuka Walmart grand reopening on Friday, Oct. 2. Walmart Store #274 marked the completion of its remodel with a morning celebration that the Tishomingo County Development Foundation and the City of Iuka both cheered as a vote of confidence in the local economy.
Iuka Walmart Grand Reopening Draws a Crowd
The Development Foundation invited the Iuka community to the celebration, which kicked off at 9 a.m. Friday at the newly remodeled store. According to the Foundation, the morning was planned to include:
- Special guests
- Local school groups
- Food trucks and refreshments
- Giveaways and other activities throughout the morning
One local vendor, This And That Cooking & Catering, told followers it would be set up at the Iuka Walmart for the grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The City of Iuka shared photos from the event on its Facebook page with a simple message: “Congratulations Walmart!” The photos showed store associates in matching blue shirts gathered in front of the store, along with a large cupcake display arranged in the shape of Walmart’s yellow spark logo.
Development Foundation Welcomes the Investment
In its announcement, the Tishomingo County Development Foundation said it was pleased to recognize the remodel as an investment in the community. The Foundation also pointed to the store’s continued presence as part of the local business landscape and congratulated the Walmart Iuka team on reaching the milestone.
For a rural county, a remodel at its largest general retailer matters. The Iuka store draws shoppers from across Tishomingo County, including Burnsville, Belmont, Tishomingo and Golden, as well as visitors heading to Pickwick Lake and J.P. Coleman State Park. Keeping that store current helps keep local shopping dollars, and the sales tax revenue that comes with them, in the county.
A Busy Stretch for Tishomingo County Business
The reopening caps a busy few weeks for economic news in Tishomingo County. The state recently broke ground on a major expansion at the Yellow Creek Port near Iuka, a project local leaders expect to bring new investment and jobs. This weekend, the long-running Trash & Treasures yard sale along the Tenn-Tom Waterway is also drawing bargain hunters to the area.
Walmart has not released details on what changed inside the Iuka store. Shoppers with questions about new departments, pickup and delivery services or store hours should contact the store directly.
