Mississippi Outdoors Podcast Discusses How to Attract More Hummingbirds
A new episode of the Mississippi Outdoors Podcast is now available. Retired biologist Mark LaSalle discusses how Mississippians can attract more hummingbirds to their yards.
LaSalle explains which native plants, such as cross vine, red buckeye, coral honeysuckle, coral bean, trumpet creeper, cardinal flower, and salvias, are effective at drawing hummingbirds. He emphasizes that these plants work better than feeders alone.
He also shares information about hummingbird migration patterns in Mississippi, including why they return to the same yards each year. Additionally, LaSalle notes that 80% of a hummingbird’s diet consists of insects, not nectar, which many people may not know.
