Mississippi Under Enhanced Threat for Severe Storms

Severe weather is approaching Mississippi, prompting alerts for residents to stay alert and prepared. Parts of the state are under an enhanced risk level, which is the third of five on the threat scale, for severe storms on Thursday, April 28, 2026, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast warns of damaging winds reaching up to 70 miles per hour, hail up to golf ball size, and the potential for tornadoes. Officials note that a strong tornado cannot be ruled out in the area.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware throughout the day, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and identify a safe shelter in case severe weather warnings are issued. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and prepared as conditions develop.
