Laurie Kesler, director of Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Adult Education program, emphasizes the transformative power of adult education.
In a recent interview, Kesler described her work as more than a job—it’s a calling. She said helping students earn their high school equivalency and move forward in life is her greatest reward.
Kesler pointed out that many students face years of disappointment, fear, or doubt when they walk through her program’s doors. Her team acts as cheerleaders, encouragers, and guides, supporting students from their first step to their next goal, whether it be college, training, or employment.
She noted that adult education is about more than earning a credential. It’s about building confidence, creating opportunities, and demonstrating that it’s never too late to change one’s life. Seeing students succeed keeps her motivated after 26 years in education.
Kesler expressed gratitude for her work and dedication, especially to the NEMCC Adult Education program, highlighting the importance of adult education in community development and individual growth.
