A brief cooldown is forecast for Tuesday, but the Delta Region and portions of North Mississippi will continue to experience high heat indices, with values exceeding 105 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.
Temperatures are expected to rise again Wednesday, which could lead to new heat headlines across the area. The forecast calls for a return to hotter conditions, prompting concerns for outdoor activity safety.
By Thursday and into the weekend, conditions are expected to become more pleasant, with lower humidity and more moderate temperatures, the weather service said.
Residents are advised to take precautions during the heat wave, including staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged outdoor activities during peak hours.
