Northeast Mississippi Community College Opens William J. “Billy” McCoy Heritage Room
Northeast Mississippi Community College celebrated a milestone Thursday with the opening of the William J. “Billy” McCoy Mississippi Heritage Room. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the dedication of a space that honors McCoy’s legacy.
McCoy, who rose from a scholarship student at Northeast to serve as Mississippi House speaker, devoted his life to education and public service. The Heritage Room showcases pieces from his 32 years in the legislature and educates visitors about his impact on Mississippi policies and communities, college officials said.
Inside the room, future generations of students will learn about McCoy’s contributions and the significance of his work beyond the college campus. College leaders emphasized that the dedication is a way to keep his story alive and inspire students to serve their communities.
