Northeast Mississippi Community College Students Bring History to Life with Virtual Reality at Marietta Elementary
The Northeast Tech Connect Team visited Marietta Elementary School to provide eighth-grade English students with an immersive virtual reality experience. Apple CORES members Zakhia Grizzard and Lily Benjamin led the lesson, helping students explore history in a new way.
The NE Apple CORES team, which stands for Creating Opportunities to Reach and Empower Students, is a student-led group that offers technology support and promotes creativity and confidence in learning. They collaborated with Student Activities and the Tech Connect Hub to facilitate the event.
Students used VR headsets to enter Anne Frank’s world, exploring the secret annex and gaining a deeper understanding of her experiences while in hiding. The hands-on activity was designed to make history more memorable and engaging.
Teachers and organizers expressed gratitude for the collaboration. Mrs. Stephanie Breedlove and her eighth-grade English classes participated in the event, which aimed to enhance students’ historical awareness through innovative technology.
