Pollinator Week Highlights Importance of Bees and Other Creatures for Ecosystems

It’s Pollinator Week, a time to recognize the vital contributions of pollinators to the environment, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and birds help native grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, and trees reproduce. Their activities are essential for maintaining plant diversity, which supports a variety of wildlife.

Creating resilient ecosystems depends on the health of these small creatures. A diverse range of plants attracts a wide range of animals, fostering ecological stability, the department said.

Photographs by Jacob Brumfield from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science highlight the importance of pollinators during this weeklong observance.
