The Wilkinson County Disaster Service Center will close permanently today at 3 p.m., according to officials. The center has been providing assistance to residents impacted by the severe storms that occurred May 6-7.
The deadline for affected residents to apply for disaster assistance is also today. Applicants do not need to visit the center to apply. They can submit requests online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App, or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), officials said.
The closure marks the end of in-person services at the center, but aid applications remain available through digital and telephone options for those affected by the storms, according to FEMA officials.
