Corinth Football Game Moved to Thursday Ahead of Storms
The Corinth football game against South Pontotoc has been moved from Friday to Thursday, Oct. 1, at Corinth High School, with storms in the forecast for Friday night. This week’s Corinth football game moved up a day after the National Weather Service began calling for widespread showers and thunderstorms across Northeast Mississippi on Friday and into the weekend.
South Pontotoc High School announced the change on social media, saying the game “has been moved to Thursday, Oct 1, 2026.” The Warriors’ schedule on the MHSAA scoreboard still showed the original Friday, Oct. 2, date with a 7 p.m. kickoff as of Wednesday. South Pontotoc’s announcement graphic listed the kickoff time as to be announced, so fans should check with Corinth High School for the final start time before heading to the stadium.
Why the Corinth football game moved to Thursday
The National Weather Service forecast for Corinth shows a dry, hot Thursday followed by a wet end to the week:
- Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 92.
- Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70 and only a slight chance of light rain.
- Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, with an 80% chance of rain and temperatures falling into the low 80s in the afternoon.
- Friday night: Showers and thunderstorms, with an 80% chance of rain.
- Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, with a 70% chance of rain and a high near 80.
Moving the game up avoids a Friday-night kickoff in the middle of the storm window. Forecast rain totals are fairly light through Friday night, but any rain is welcome: Alcorn County has been in drought for weeks and remains under an emergency burn ban through Oct. 12.
Corinth High alumni celebration moves to Oct. 16
The schedule change also affects the Corinth High School Alumni Association. The association had planned to recognize its Alumnus of the Year, Dr. Joseph Leonard Pratt, during this week’s game. According to the Daily Corinthian, that celebration has been moved to Friday, Oct. 16, at halftime of Corinth’s home game. A tent will be set up near the home-side stands, where friends and classmates can stop by to congratulate Pratt. The MHSAA schedule lists Tishomingo County as Corinth’s opponent that night.

Corinth enters the week 2-2, with road wins at New Hope and Houston and home losses to Itawamba AHS and Pontotoc. Other area schools may also adjust their Friday plans because of the forecast, so fans headed to any game this week should check with the school before they go.
