NEMCC Volleyball Sweep Caps Fall Break Homestand

Northeast Mississippi Community College volleyball closed out its fall break homestand in style Saturday, sweeping Freed-Hardeman JV 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 inside Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville. The NEMCC volleyball sweep was powered by the serving line, where the Tigers piled up 14 service aces against the Lions.

The win was Northeast’s final nonconference match of the season and came three days after the Tigers took a set from nationally ranked Jones College in a four-set loss.

How the NEMCC volleyball sweep unfolded

According to the college’s athletics department, Eliza Whitenton scored the first ace of the afternoon to help Northeast to an early 3-1 lead in the opening set. Addy Hicks then took over. Hicks added a pair of kills from the pin, served two aces to start a 5-0 run, and later scored three more kills during a 6-0 run that closed the set 25-13. Adrianna Buckingham’s kill in the middle during that stretch forced Freed-Hardeman JV to call a timeout.

Addi Vetovitz and Kaylee Estes helped get the second set going for the Tigers. Brooklyn Chappell recorded her first kill of the match and Ryan Brown followed with another as Northeast scored seven straight points to go up 18-9. The Lions answered with a brief 5-2 run, but five consecutive Freed-Hardeman errors handed the Tigers a 25-14 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Freed-Hardeman JV led 3-1 early in the third set before Carine Delfin evened things up with back-to-back aces. An 8-0 Northeast run followed, with Hicks and Buckingham adding kills for a 12-5 lead. Erynn Boddie hammered a kill from the pin and Lexi McBrayer served two more aces. Delfin then ended the match the same way she started the comeback, with two straight aces to seal a 25-12 set and the sweep.
