Isaias brings rain, closures and state response across Mississippi

NWS Memphis warns of Saturday rain and wind

The National Weather Service in Memphis says the remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to affect much of the Mid-South on Saturday. Its Thursday night graphic forecasts periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds, with sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph, gusts up to 40 mph, and rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches.

MSDH locations close Friday in severe weather

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency shared a Mississippi State Department of Health notice saying some MSDH locations are closed Friday, Oct. 9, because of severe weather. The notice tells people to check msdh.ms.gov/closures before visiting a health department or WIC center and says updates are available through the MSDH Healthy Mobile App.

MEMA says preparations continue on the Gulf Coast

In a Thursday Facebook post, MEMA said Executive Director Stephen McCraney was on the Mississippi Gulf Coast as the agency continued preparing for Hurricane Isaias. The post included a photo in front of a MEMA-branded backdrop, but the image does not identify the pictured people beyond the post.
