MEMA shares Hurricane Isaias update as storm stays Category 3
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency shared National Hurricane Center Advisory 13 Friday afternoon, saying Hurricane Isaias remained a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph and was moving north at 17 mph. The agency said the storm was expected to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle.
MEMA said a hurricane warning was in effect for Jackson County. Tropical storm warnings were in effect for eastern Mississippi counties from the coast to Lee and Itawamba counties, according to the post.
The National Hurricane Center key messages in MEMA’s post warned of life-threatening storm surge from the Mouth of the Mississippi River to Suwannee, Florida. The graphics also said hurricane warnings were in effect for portions of the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama and southern Mississippi.
The advisory warned of heavy rainfall, flash flooding, urban flooding, river flooding, landslides and tornado risk through tonight and into the weekend. MEMA said Mississippians should remain vigilant and stay safe.
