Corinth Rolls Again in District Play

A week after a 62-0 home win over South Pontotoc, the Warriors went on the road and beat North Pontotoc 52-7. Corinth is now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in district play, having scored 114 points in its first two district games while allowing seven.

The district run follows a mixed nonconference stretch. Corinth opened with a 28-21 win at New Hope, lost 21-14 to Itawamba AHS, won 24-21 at Houston, and fell 17-14 to Pontotoc. Both losses came by a touchdown or less. Through six games, the Warriors have scored 194 points and allowed 87.

The week’s games wrapped up before Isaias arrived. The storm’s remnants are expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Northeast Mississippi on Saturday.

Booneville Stays Unbeaten

The Blue Devils beat Belmont 41-6 to move to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the district. Booneville won 44-22 at Kossuth the week before. Belmont fell to 1-5.

Alcorn Central and Tishomingo County Win

Alcorn Central handled Mantachie 39-14 at home to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Golden Bears won 36-20 at Belmont a week earlier.

In Iuka, Tishomingo County beat South Pontotoc 35-16 for its first district win. The Braves are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in district play.

Looking Ahead

A key district matchup is set for Friday, Oct. 16, when Tishomingo County visits Corinth. Both teams are unbeaten in district play. After that, Corinth finishes the regular season at Amory on Oct. 23 and at New Albany on Oct. 29.

Scores for other area teams, including Baldwyn, had not been posted when this story was published. Coaches and athletic directors can send results and highlights to Alcorn News MS.
