Area Football Scores: Booneville Stays Unbeaten, Bears Win

Friday night’s area football scores gave Booneville and Alcorn Central fast starts in division play. Booneville won 44-22 at Kossuth to stay unbeaten, and Alcorn Central won 36-20 at Belmont. Baldwyn also cruised past Biggersville on the road. Corinth had already played on Thursday night, when the Warriors routed South Pontotoc 63-0 after their game was moved up a day ahead of Friday’s storms.

Booneville Tops Kossuth in Division 1-3A Opener

Both teams came into the Division 1-3A opener at Kossuth on a roll. The Aggies had won three straight, and Booneville had won every game. The Blue Devils kept that streak going with a 44-22 road win, according to the teams’ MaxPreps schedules.

  • Booneville (5-0, 1-0 division): The Blue Devils have now scored at least 31 points in every game. Their wins this season include North Pontotoc, Baldwyn, Biggersville, and Ripley.
  • Kossuth (3-3, 0-1): The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for coach Brian Kelly’s Aggies, who have started sophomore Aiden McCalmon at quarterback for the last three games.

Alcorn Central Wins Again at Belmont

Alcorn Central kept its best season in years rolling with a 36-20 win at Belmont. The Daily Corinthian noted before the game that the Golden Bears had not won three games in a season since 2021. Friday’s victory was their fourth, and their third in a row. The Bears have also beaten Falkner, Walnut, and Biggersville this fall.

  • Alcorn Central (4-2): Three straight wins after a 26-8 victory over Biggersville the week before
  • Belmont (1-4, 0-1): The Cardinals dropped their third straight game, following close losses to Tishomingo County and Red Bay

Baldwyn Shuts Out Biggersville

Baldwyn bounced back from a lopsided loss to Alabama power Mars Hill Bible with a 47-0 win at Biggersville. The Bearcats are now 4-2. Tishomingo County (3-2) had the week off.

Kossuth is off next week and returns Oct. 16 at Belmont. On Oct. 16, Corinth also hosts Tishomingo County in a division game.
